Cape gooseberry is bell-shaped and golden-orange-colored, which has a smooth and glossy cover, and it tastes sour and bitter. Furthermore, this berry is again covered with a papery husk. In India, these berries are called Rasbari. It has various names, like Peruvian groundcherry, Poha, Husk cherry, etc.
Something that you have to know about cape gooseberries is that nowadays it is rare to find them.
They mostly grow from February
through May. But the interesting fact about these berries is that they
adapt to any climate and can be grown easily.

The
origin of this fruit is from South Africa and it is called Cape gooseberry
because it was first cultivated in Cape of Good Hope. This plantation was
further carried to Australia, where it got its name Cape gooseberry.
This
berry can be consumed fresh as well as dried. It is rich in pectin and has a
mildly tart flavor. These berries are sold in local markets in India. Only the
ripe ones can be eaten, the unripe ones are dangerous.

The
Zulu tribe, the largest tribe in South Africa, uses the leaves of the Cape
gooseberry for treating abdominal conditions.
There are so many health benefits from these berries; these berries have a high amount of vitamin A that helps in strengthening our vision.

They consist of Vitamin C and antioxidants that will boost your immunity and they have more vitamin C than the lemon, control, high blood pressure, strengthen your bones, fight cold and flu, and more.
Nowadays,
this sweet yellow berry is cultivated in South Africa instead of its South American home, hence its namesake. The Cape gooseberry can grow easily
in degraded soil, making it a high-yield crop for farmers with limited access
to fertilizer. This little fruit has many uses, like those of the tomato,
but may also be made into jams or desserts.
