How To Grab The Best Of Zizyphus Rugosa Lam Berries Or Kotte Hannu

Zizyphus Rugosa is also called Kotte mullu or Kotte Hannu in Kannada.

It is a tiny spiny tree or a shrub found in mountains, riversides, and forests and grows from July to November. The wild fruit borne by this shrub is eaten raw or cooked. It tastes very sweet.

It is very nutritious because it contains 15% of carbohydrates, sugar, fat, fiber, and potassium. The sugar produced in it a decent source for the birds, animals, and ants. This fruit is extremely delicate and mushy with red-brown seed inside. It is green while unripe and white when ripe.

The paste prepared from the bark of the tree gives relief from toothaches. The flower crushed with beetle leaves and limewater is employed for treating menorrhagia, a medical term used for heavy or abnormal bleeding during menstrual periods.

The branches of this tree are used to make fences and the wood is used as fuels. It is useful for various skin conditions like dry and itchy skin, wounds, and ulcers. It also helps in treating jaundice among the newborns.

This tree or shrub grows in India, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and China. The fruits are also sold by the locals.
